    Dear Commission Members,

As a long-time resident living in the Boundary-Similkameen, I am disappointed that you are proposing to expand our provincial electoral boundary by adding Princeton and its surrounding area to our riding.

Moving Princeton into our riding places that municipality outside its natural rural collective with Merritt, Lillooet and Ashcroft. It fractures an existing school district, affecting students and their families, and creating the very real possibility of schools losing valuable programs and services. This could have a negative effect on the quality of their education, not to mention the budgeting nightmare the school district would face. Having two MLA’s responsible for one school district simply doesn’t make any sense.

I respectfully request that you consider the Boundary-Similkameen as a special case. The riding will not be better served by our MLA when more travel time takes away from the diverse issues and concerns her constituents have. The people and the concerns that are important to them must take precedence over population and Commission policy. We must strive to make our MLA’s ability to communicate with all of the citizens more efficient- not more onerous, as it would be if the riding became larger than it already is.

    Yours very truly,

    Carolyn Madge
