I was born and raised in Merritt and lived in the community for 22 years. I still feel a very strong connection to Merritt. All my relatives and many friends still live there. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Commission for a job well done. I support the changes you recommend in your Preliminary Report for the Cariboo-Thompson.

Hope definitely belongs in Fraser-Nicola, as it used to in Yale-Lillooet. I always drive through Hope and Chilliwack when I go to Vancouver and find that Hope and Chilliwack have very little in common. Hope is not too different from Merritt or any other community in Fraser-Nicola. They are similar small towns with similar cultures and lifestyles. It makes sense that they are again proposed to be in the same constituency because of their common interests. I believe you got it right when you stated in your report that Hope and the Fraser Canyon will achieve “more effective representation” in the same constituency. I also support your proposed change for Princeton and to the Fraser Valley communities by shifting all the boundaries slightly to the west to deal with population pressures.
