I am respectfully requesting that the Commission revise the name of the proposed electoral district of Surrey Guildford to retain the current provincial constituency’s name of Surrey Tynehead.
I have lived in Surrey since 1972, and have lived in the Fleetwood/Fraser Heights/Guildford/Tynehead area since 1976. For over 30 years I have been active in business and community organizations in many capacities, including holding the offices of President of the Surrey Board of Trade, President of the Rotary Club of Surrey, and President of the Surrey Crime Society. I was also privileged to serve as MLA for Surrey Tynehead from 2001 to 2013.
In conversation with many individuals about the upcoming changes in provincial ridings, almost
all strongly suggested that the new electoral district be kept with the name of Surrey Tynehead to reflect the area’s heritage and name recognition. The name “Tyhenead” has a long history. The large park in the riding – Tynehead Regional Park - was so named in recognition of the legacy of the pioneers who first arrived and named the area Tynehead.
Please seriously consider retaining the name of the new riding as Surrey Tynehead, a name that has
a historical background, and a name that is very well known in Surrey, and the Lower Mainland.
Dave S. Hayer,
Former MLA – Surrey Tynehead (2001-2013)
Former President, Surrey Board of Trade (1996-1997).
