Dear Commission Members,
I understand that the provincial electoral jurisdiction of Surrey Fleetwood is currently under review. As a resident of the Fleetwood community, I am a stakeholder in this. I live near 154 and 83 Avenue.
Fleetwood is a close-knit community. My children grew up playing in parks and attending the schools. It is home to young families and seniors who live in close communities of family homes or town house complexes. We have watched the children of the neighbourhood grow up playing in the local parks. We see our neighbours at the nearby grocery store or at the gas station on the corner.
It does not make sense that the current boundaries include the area down Fraser highway. It is a different community altogether. I don’t think anyone in Surrey considers the Surrey Golf Club, the Honeybee Centre area, or the farming flats as a apart of Fleetwood.
It would make sense, however, to include the areas around Fleetwood Park and Fleetwood Secondary School, as they share the name of the riding, and it makes geographic sense if you are trying to keep the community together.
I whole heartedly support the proposed new Surrey Fleetwood riding boundaries. I think that it is a good representation of the perceived boundaries of the community and in this way we will know that our MLA has our interests in mind in their work in Victoria.
