Dear Commission Members,
I am writing regarding the proposed boundary changes for the provincial electoral district of Surrey Fleetwood. I live on 151 Street and 95 A Avenue in Fleetwood. As a member of the community, I want to share my thoughts on the matter.
I understand that the proposed boundaries stretch roughly from 140 Street east towards 160 Street and from 100 Ave south to 76 Ave. To me, this new electoral division is a better representation of the community than the previous boundaries.
The heart of Fleetwood is about families. Young families move into the area because of the terrific schools, new and renewed subdivisions with perfect starter homes, and the many beautiful parks and playgrounds.
The previous boundaries include large farms and agricultural areas. Obviously, the priorities of these areas would vary greatly from those of families in the majority of the district. In order to be fairly represented by our future MLA in Fleetwood, it would make sense to keep the community as uniform as possible. This way we know that our interests are being heard and represented properly in Victoria, and I’m sure that the more agricultural areas would feel the same way.
I would like to point out, however, that the newly proposed boundaries do not include Fleetwood Park or Fleetwood School, which seems like an over sight considering that the riding is called “Surrey Fleetwood”.
Thank you for your consideration of my concerns.
Thanks for listening.
