I have followed the work of the Commission in redrawing electoral boundaries in BC with interest, and commend members on producing a thoughtful report on a complex topic.
As a lifelong (61 years) Surrey resident (who grew up on 192 Street @ #10 Highway) my main interest is the ridings of Surrey and White Rock. I think good decisions have been made, and efforts to keep cogent communities within one riding are laudable.
I have resided in South Surrey for 40 years now, and our area has pretty much always been 'tacked on'to the White Rock, Cloverdale or Panorama districts. The area now boasts sufficient population to justify its own seat, with a portion of Clayton attached to reflect the need to keep people's votes counting roughly equal.
South Surrey and Clayton are not so different that wedding them creates any sort of mismatch that should be of concern. I only suggest that changing the riding name to 'Surrey South - Clayton' may help appease any concerns that Clayton is not being duly recognized in the riding name.
Thank you for your good work on our behalf.
