I fully support the Commission’s decision to add another electoral district to Surrey. Surrey is a growing city and it needs to be represented fairly in the Legislative Assembly of BC. The Commission was able to add another district while doing everything possible to keep core communities together. I am pleased with how the Commission was able to complete this difficult task for our City. The Commission’s decision to make changes to the boundaries will help rebalance the population more evenly and that really important for me. Everyone’s vote matters and my vote should matter. Therefore, I am delighted to note that my own electoral district, Newton, has roughly the same population as other districts. I applaud the work of the Commissioners for their fair and objective approach to the whole process of redistribution of population and for readjusting the boundaries accordingly. The Commission should finalise this report without making any substantial changes.
