We are strongly against this proposed boundary change, in our opinion, putting Hope area back in the Merritt/Boundary electoral district is a step backward not forward. Historically when Hope was in this electoral district, it was ignored, a non-entity, pushed aside until our votes were needed for another election. The governments did not seem to know how to deal with us and as a result Hope was almost isolated. Years ago this might have been OK but times and people have changed. Once Hope became a part of the Chilliwack electoral district more attention was placed on it by both the Federal and Provincial representatives. Our area now has more in common with the Chilliwack/Agassiz areas than Merritt which is not just separated from us geographically by a mountain range but by people's ideas and life-styles. Hope residents are interested and involved in the Chilliwack/Agassiz communities many of them working there. They have little or no interest in the Merritt area. Clearly, as we see it, it is only a benefit to politicians and not the population of Hope. Please leave us in the 21st century. Thank You.
