I strongly disagree with the proposal of moving the areas south and west of Courtenay (including Royston, where I live) into the Mid Island-Pacific Rim riding. The Comox Valley - which includes all areas covered by the Comox Valley Regional District - works closely together in all aspects of our daily lives: schools, healthcare, roads, recreation facilities and more. As a region, we have repeatedly been told to think about regional solutions to significant planning and infrastructure decisions. It makes absolutely no sense that all of our provincial services would be based in the municipalities of Courtenay and Comox, and yet residents just three minutes from those towns would instead be lumped with regions hours away.
Please reconsider this proposal which appears to be made based solely on number crunching and not on practical application of fair representation.
