    John Edward White, Clinton
    2014-11-16

I am a retired public servant. I have lived in this constituency for 49 years. I lived in Merritt from 1965 to 1988, when I moved to Clinton where I am still resident. I served as the Deputy Government Agent in Merritt from 1975 to 1988; then moved to Clinton where I served as Government Agent for 8 years. I was also elected as a Councillor for the Village of Clinton for two terms.

These are my thoughts on the present electoral boundaries redistribution:

    1. I believe that the Fraser-Nicola and Cariboo-Chilcotin constituencies need more people as they both are under the BC average for constituencies.
    2. I agree with others who advise that the Commission should take Hope and the Fraser Canyon out of Chilliwack-Hope and add them to Fraser-Nicola. This is a natural fit because the member communities have a lot in common with each other as previous presenters and online submitters have described.
    3. Since the northern communities of Fraser-Nicola, including Clinton, Cache Creek and Ashcroft are a part of the Cariboo, it is only natural to add these communities again to Cariboo-Chilcotin as they were before 2008.
    4. Pavillion and Fountain Indian Bands should remain in Fraser-Nicola, while the Shuswap Nation’s Skeetchestn and Bonaparte Indian Bands would be transferred to Cariboo-Chicotin as they were prior to 2008.
    5. However, Ashcroft and Oregon Jack Indian Bands should remain in Fraser-Nicola, as their community interests are the same as the other Nlaka’pamux Nation Indian Bands in Fraser-Nicola.

These are my comments. I know the Commission members have a tough task ahead. I hope and believe my suggestions will assist the Commission in solving the part of the declining population problems electoral districts in the Cariboo-Thompson are facing. Thank you.
