My home riding of False Creek is growing too quickly for boundaries to remain the same heading into 2017. Southeast False Creek is developing rapidly, and will contain well over 10,000 residents when built-out in just a few years.
Vancouver-West End could therefore be extended to encompass Kitsilano east of Arbutus St and north of 4th, continuing to use Burrard St. as the boundary with Vancouver-False Creek (a continuation of the downtown boundary). This would relieve Vancouver-False Creek of what I imagine would be around 5,000 residents.
Only a short walk over the Burrard Bridge, the West End community office is geographically closer to many Kitsilano residents than many points on the downtown peninsula. Another benefit of the change would be to reduce the geographic unwieldiness of Vancouver False Creek, which presently awkwardly wraps around False Creek to a point much farther west than the downtown majority of the riding.
This proposed change is also consistent with the recent federal realignment, which places Kits Point in the Vancouver Centre riding which also includes the West End.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this proposal.
