    Jack Weisgerber, Nanaimo

As a former Member of the Legislature, I welcome the opportunity to share my views regarding electoral boundaries.

I live in the neighbourhood of College Heights which is currently located in the Nanaimo North Cowichan constituency. We are located in the City of Nanaimo directly west of the main campus of Vancouver Island University, on the western side of the Nanaimo Parkway. We are currently in a constituency that stretches south to Ladysmith, Chemainus, Thetis Island and Crofton while our common interests are with the Nanaimo constituency.
One idea would be to move Lesqueti Island from Parksville-Qualicum to Powell River Sunshine Coast and then make the necessary boundary changes within the City of Nanaimo to bring our community into the Nanaimo Electoral District where it rightfully belongs.
Secondly, as MLA, I represented the constituency of Peace River South from 1986 to 2001. During that time the constituency had different configurations. The current boundaries make sense. There was a time when Mackenzie was located in Peace River South, however it was difficult to service from Dawson Creek and people of Mackenzie clearly felt more associated with Prince George. I strongly urge the Commission to keep Mackenzie adjoined to Prince George as incorporating it into the Peace would be a disservice to them.
