    Dear Commission,

I recently attended the EBC hearing in Abbotsford and was quite concerned by the efforts undertaken by former NDP MLA Harry Lali to move the 6,200+ voters of Hope and the lower Fraser Canyon back into the Fraser-Nicola riding.

As a 40+ year Chilliwack resident (Chilliwack-Hope riding) I am concerned about the motives of Mr. Lali and do not believe, as suggested by him and his group, that Hope’s local economy has suffered as a result of being associated with Chilliwack.

Chilliwack is experiencing modest growth and is much closer to Hope than Merritt is. I believe any economic growth in Chilliwack will also end up benefiting the people of Hope.

I do not believe that moving the voters of Hope and the lower Canyon up into the Fraser Nicola riding to be represented by an MLA out of the much smaller community of Merritt is, as suggested by Mr. Lali, the answer to Hope’s economic problems but rather, it is more likely the solution to Mr. Lali’s problem of not being re-elected.

I believe the Chilliwack-Hope connection is a good one, your own 2014 data suggests the numbers are within a few thousand of the projected 2014 averages and I firmly believe the Chilliwack-Hope riding should be left as is.
