At the Public Hearing on November 6 in Nanaimo, the Commissioners requested a map showing my proposed changes to the Nanaimo Electoral District boundaries. Commission staff have a copy of my presentation.
I attach the requested map to illustrate the general shift I am proposing. The new Nanaimo Riding would encompass areas to the west of the Nanaimo Parkway and south of the existing Parksville-Qualicum boundary. There would be a compensatory shift northward in the boundary between Nanaimo and Nanaimo-North Cowichan. Retained in the proposed Nanaimo boundary would be the main VIU campus, and downtown Nanaimo, including City Hall.
I am sure that Commission staff will be more adept than I could be at tracing the exact line in the south that would provide appropriate population to Nanaimo-North Cowichan. There is considerable flexibility in doing this, since the area east of the University campus and south of 3rd St is contiguous in a practical, trading and economic sense with the larger "Chase River" district of southern Nanaimo.
Thanks again for the opportunity to contribute.
    Sincerely,

    Michael Hunter
